Spokane

Heading to SEA in a few to catch an Alaska Airlines flight to GEG (Spokane). Alaska 692 to be precise. They have a partnership with NW, so I'll get freq. flier credit. I hope they also recognize partner Elite status, and not charge me for checking in a bag! :)

I'll be in Spokane till Thursday morning, attending the Making Disciples (pdf link) seminar of the Catherine of Siena Institute. No idea about internet access ...

hopefully you'll be able to some how use these frequent flyer miles you're racking up. People have been complaining as little by little those are becoming worthless.

Oh so you're flying NW. My travel agent booked me with them for trans-continental and -oceanic flights last month with extreme trepidation: she'd never had a single NW passenger return home without squawking mightly about the horrible service. Well, it's pretty basic, to be sure (I fear that NW is about to go the way of TWA, Braniff and Canadian Pacific). But there is obviously considerable discretion in the stewardesses as to just what accommodation they afford passengers. Both going and coming, I had Deep Southerners and spontaneously commented on the deliciousness of their manner of speaking English. (Some southern accents are like fingernails on a chalkboard -- Lady Bird, Lynda Bird and Lucy Bird Johnson; Mrs Bush jnr -- but Mississippi and North Carolina I could listen to till the cows come home.) And found myself with complimentary Chivas Regals every time I looked up or indeed woke up from a nap. Needless to say I had no complaints, and indeed reported very favourably to my travel agent on the care and attention on NW. (There was some consternation between Seattle and Minneapolis among the stewardesses: three passengers in a row, myself included, were reading Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth and boo-hooing antiphonally. And then between Minneapolis and Detroit when I was reading Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father: the Alabama gal was vastly concerned till I offered the caveat that the book needed some aggressive editing of its occasionally rather purple prose (and where did he get the notion that there are apes in New Guinea?). Then I was OK again.
