FLYING!

WOO HOO ... a friend's going to take me up in a Cessna on Monday ... I CANNOT WAIT!!! Yes there'll be pictures on here.

And no snide remarks about skin color y'all :-p

You know, if it weren't for all this Lord-calling-me-to-priesthood thang I'd totally be a pilot. Now I have to figure out how to combine the two ... :)

:: UPDATE :: Sadly, today's flight got grounded because of that front that brought all that crazy rainfall last night ... way too many clouds up at KJUF, so my buddy has postponed the trip to later in the week. He's still working on his instrument rating, so flying has to be VFR only.

Join the Missionary Aviation Fellowship. Or do they only allow Holy Rollers?

I watched a special on the Discovery Channel about the Grand Canyon. They had these people who would fly over the canyon and get married in the air. If you were the co-pilot you could just step away, marry the folks in back, and then go land the thing!

has a visitor-friendly location in Waxhaw, NC, just across the border from Lackluster, SC.

We can introduce you to some nice Wycliffe folks on several continents, including a couple from Columbia who have done language survey work up and down your home continent (with a home base in Kathmandu).

If you have interest in flying in Virginia - let me know. I have a few connections up yonder.

@assiniboine: never heard of this Missionary Fellowship. Or were you being facetious? :)

@heather: sounds precarious! :-) 'Sides, I can only imagine the creativity required to get permission from the Bishop to perform a wedding in mid-air :)

@sean: yes, Alaska! 'Cept it's kinda ... um ... cold ... :) The thought has crossed the mind though!

Missionary Aviation Fellowship is one of those groups that uses pilots to support the work of missionaries in the developing world. They serve the gamut from Salvation Army to Samaritan's purse.

Alaska isn't a bad idea, either.

OK, one more addition to the comments on flying.

You may already know about this, but I just found out about the Newark Liberty Airport real-time flight monitor site. Too cool.

I hope you get a chance to access this whilst going through real flying withdrawal.
